Water Leak

Newbie here.
A friend asked me to help on her Catalina 30. I noticed a water leak while the engine is running. Where the engine exhaust manifold is plumbed to a white tank. The manifold goes astern and bends down 90 degrees. The tank is beneath the 90 degree turn. The two are joined by a piece of 1 5/8" (my guess) hose. There is the leak. I have tightened the hose clamps, but the leak persists.

My questions are:
What is the tank?
Is it possible the weld for the tank inlet is failing?
Is it possible to change the hose? The exhaust manifold end is fixed. The tank nipple extends into the hose. The old hose could be cut off, but I cannot see any way to get a new hose over both the tank and manifold nipples.

Am I missing something here?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The Tank is the Aqualift muffler, you can change the hoses, if you do, change to the more flexible hose that absorbs engine vibration.

Yes, the white box is the aqualift muffler. The hose is indeed 1 5/8" but you should ONLY replace it with exhaust hose. You can find a C30 manual online, which shows this system. If you can't find one, you can peruse our C34 manual, same systems, just a different layout (http://www.c34.org/manuals/1988/1988-C34-Owners.pdf) PDF page 49.

In many cases, either the port into or from the muffler deteriorates, or the hose gets old.

Here's some background: please read both pages
