catalina 25 tahoe
greetings, my old catalina 25 is leaking when it rains. It is coming in from the ports. Should I reseal or replace the gaskets? I cant do this myself. Would hiring a handyman be ok? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance.:)

It would help to know the year of construction, that is are your ports the newer Lexan plastic, or original glass ports with aluminum frames? You can repair & reseal them yourself, and you should so that you get to know your boat better by doing repairs on it. Unless you're not physically able to do the work. The metal frames unscrew from the interior cabing side frame. You usually have to run a putty knike and/or utility knife around the perimeter to break the seal of the rubber caulking etc. holding them in. You can order kits from places such as Catalina Direct, etc. which come with the new bedding adhesive, gasket seals, etc. & instructions on how to do it. Not difficult, just time consuming. Good luck.

ps. There should be many previous threads on the specific details of repairing leaking ports, as it is a very common problem on all older Catalinas.
Butyl tape is well recommended as a method of sealing ports & preventing them from reoccurring as it provides a permanent & flexible seal to both the frames & cabin house fiberglass.
