Water is still very cold...

Especially up in northern Minnesota. No information on the size of the boat or the father's sailing experience. It was gusting to 30+ and steady around 20-25 all day. The lake is about a mile across, a little less maybe, and about a mile and a half or so long. So I am thinking the boat had to be 22 or less.

Such a tragedy....I saw a father with his young daughter get into a kayak yesterday without any life jackets on and paddle away.....first thought was if the boat flipped it's way too cold and without wearing a life jacket can turn an accident into a tragedy

This early season warm weather has folks out on the water in droves....and while the sun is warm and the air is nice....that water is still holding winter temps. Being unprepared for it can be a fatal mistake.

Maryland DNR requires wet suits for sailboards and kayaks when the water temperature in below 60 degrees F.
