We bouth 1994 Hunter 23.5 last year. Last year we had some water coming in by the back of the boat. Wild I was doing the preparation for the new seasons I try to find out were the water was coming from. I find out that there was a crack of about 3 feet long in the joint between the hull and the back of the boat. It seem that is was and old problem and a fast repair have been made and cover with antifouling paint so is was impossible to see it when we inspect the boat. Could you suggest me the best way to repair the boat so we can forget this problem. I do have some photo but it is not possible to send them. hambel@videotron.qc.ca

3 feet needs more than caulk

Sorry to hear you have a 3 foot crack in your hull/transom joint. 3M 5200 is good for permanent joining/bedding, not for separated hull/transom joints. You may want to try contacting Hunter. I don't think it will be covered under the 5 year hull guarantee, but they may have some suggestions. This problem as described needs fiberglass repair. Since it can be repaired from the interior(not visible) it shouldn't be too expensive. Unless you have experience in fiberglass repair, this is best left up to professionals. Take the pictures to a boat repair shop to get a feel for what you are up against. If it is very expensive, you may want to investigate disclosure laws in your state. You may have legal redress if the seller hid major defects. Good luck.
