I just purchased a 1987 catalina 22. When I put the boat to bed for the winter, I noticed I had 1" of water in the bow storage locker. I can't figure out where this is coming from, except maybe the ancor locker? The rest of the boat is dry except for this. We had a bad rainstorm the other nite, could it have come through the anchor locker in the bow? Thanks, Delanie

re: fresh water intake

Thanks for responding so soon - It will be getting very cold here soon. Do you mean the where the fresh water tank is kept? That is bone dry. The water is in the cabin locker in the v-berth (in the bow) - directly under the anchor locker

Don't worry about it

Just empty it out and keep an eye on it. If it continually fills up, then you have a leak. Otherwise, consider it a one time thing. Regards, Ted

locker leaks

My boat leaks into all 4 under-seat lockers whenever I sail it hard enough to put a rail under. At first I thought it was rain-water leakage, but I now know it is coming in through the hull/deck joint at the rub rail. You could be getting rain water leakage through some deck fitting, or leakage when the boat dips the bow under. You want to find out when it leaks - is it wet after a rain, or is it after a sail. Since I didn't want to go through a resealing and rubrail job, I just drilled a small hole at the lowest inboard end of each locker, and now the water drains to the bilge, where it is easier to pump out.

U-Bolt and drain hole

We had a leak into the anchor well. Ours is a 7.8 m. Ross. It happened only after a sail. We found that the water was ingressing through the U-bolt on the front. We repositioned the U-bolt and resealed it, and the other problem was that the drain hole was slightly above the lowest point of the floor of the locker, so the water gathered in the locker and then leaked through into the V berth. All fixed now, and no leaks. Cheers Bing

Check Locker Drain

I had the same problem on the same year/ model boat. I discovered that the small tube that drains the achor locker through to the bow had become loose and that rain water was then running into the v-berth. I simply reset the tube with a small amount of expoxy and the problem ended.
