water in the cockpit

I get water buildup on the starboard side of the cockpit seats, most of it drains as designed, but there's almost always a small pool of water that builds up at the front of the cockpit seat on the one side (port side is ok). Has anybody had a similar problem, how did you fix it? I was thinking of putting some addition weight as far aft as possible behind the engine and fuel tank.

What boat are we talking about here

I have a similar situation on my o'day 30. it appears that its a manf. defect and I just put up with the small puddle. when its there i just sponge it dry.

O'day 31

The Boat in question is an O'Day 31, it has a reverse transom w/swim platform, but is otherwise very similar to the O'Day 30. In the transom area, there is just a big flat area that is wasted space under the cockpit and I was thinking of putting weights there until the water drains properly, I don't think it will take much because when it is on boat stands it is set up so that it drains properly.

Why add all that weight

The 31 is identical to the 30 except for the transom. I'm guessing that it will take a lot more weight than you think. A sponge kept in the small locker on starboard side does the trick, for the ocassional water. A bigger annoyance I've found is the way the small track on cabin guides the water in spray or rain to the cockpit seats. My guess is that part of the deck assy is'nt supported properly, since its over the quarter berth. I was thinking of trying to jack it up then put shims or a new bulk, which is the side wall for the engine compartment to hold it in place. Of course there is the question of whether this might crack the glass trying to get it high enough to stop the puddle from forming. My suspicion is that the whole assy. was not made to account for this at the factory. since more than one has the same problem. there is another 30 in my marina. I'll check this weekend to see if it has the same indications. will get back to you next week re; what i found. Capn j
