I have a 2005 Hunter 33, that is getting water inside the rudder. I drilled a couple of small holes at the bottom to drain. Can't figure out where it might be coming from. Any one have any ideas before I drop the rudder to get a better look.

Check the archives. This is a pretty common affliction. I've been through it myself. Just let it drain and be patient.

My guess is water enters where the rudder post enters the rudder. I had that problem with a Hunter 1980 33 and with a Hunter 1991 33.5. The delamination got pretty bad on the 33.5, so I had the rudder re-built by Foss Foam in Florida. Everything is dry now.

Ken is right. It almost always comes from the entry of the rudder post. Problem with that foam - once it is wet it never dries out. Needs to be dug out, drilled out, then dried out and refoamed using high density two part foam. Then the skin can be repaired and the issue at the rudder post addressed. Unless the stainless webbing inside has corroded at the welds, there is no reason you cannot do the rebuild yourself.

Peter, How did you know that you had water in the rudder? I also have a 2005 H33 that is going to be hauled on the 26th and would like to see if have the same problem.

When I had the boat hauled I noticed some brownish color running down the back of the rudder about 1/3 up from the bottom.
