What I know about tanks.

If it were a SCUBA tank, get rid of it. If a tank rusts from the inside, you never know when it is going to blow under pressure!

LPG is called it for a reason..

Not for nothing, but you sure it was water in the tank? When propane is put under pressure the gas becomes a liquid. Was someone confusing that sound when you shake it water, or was water vapors comming out of the stove?

propane tank life span

is stamped on handle of the tank. In most states it is illegal to fill the tank after that date. Unless you know of some other reason (i.e. how did the water get in tank?) I would feel safe using the tank until it expires by law, if it otherwise looks OK. They can be re certified but not sure how cost effective it is. As Mike said are you sure you have water in the tank ?

oops

Oops. What I was refering to was water that got into the propane locker in which the propane tanks reside therefore blocking the ability for any gas to escape out of the through hull . Does anyone have an update to what Hunter has said about this problem which seems to affect 41 and 44 more than other models.

Wet Propane Locker

I have the same problem on our H340. It is rusting the bottoms of the propane tanks. I'm not sure how the water is getting in there. I wonder if a new seal would help. Or do you suppose it's coming up the drain line? Please let me know if you find out the answer.

Got the same problem on H356

Sometimes will have 1/2" of water rolling around. Have no idea how it is getting in I was wondering if it was getting through via the latches. Jim S/V Java

water in propane locker

This topic came up not too long ago. Someone found water in his drain line, so I checked mine (an '04 33). Sure enough, there was water trapped in the line, preventing any potential gas leak from venting. The bottom of the propane locker is never wet, so my guess is water is getting in the vent when the boat is heeling - the vent is kind of low on the hull. It's worth checking - I drained 12 ounces of water from the line.
