Water in Lower Stern Lazarette on P42

Did a search and didn't find much on it but I have always had water from washing and rain in the lower stern compartment, so much that a previous owner had added a bilge pump just for that compartment. It didn't appear to be factory so I assume it was added to pump out the Lazarette every time it rained, or washed the boat. Anyway while redoing the compartment covers, I discovered that the problem is a design flaw. It appears that the most of the main deck and all of the rear deck drains to the stern where it runs off, or is supposed to. Anyway, the lids to the lower Lazarette covers were not trimmed and when closed, they block the flow of water and cause the water to back up around the cover drain channels and overflow into the locker. You have to get down and look closely to see what I am talking about. So I just cut out the two corners of each lid and walla, no more water in the compartment. Needed to solve this problem in order to store anything in the compartment, it got nasty and had to be cleaned out often, humidity and mold. Anyway, I also put gaskets all the way around inside the lids, not in the drain channel , where the bumpers are, that's important. First test with washing was a success, no water in the compartment. Now just have to wait for the next rain storm for the final test. Oh and did find some info on the propane locker and the port locker with water coming in those compartments. Increased all four drains to 3/4" from 1/2" and added through hulls to give each drain its own, no more doubling up. Also gasketed those compartments and that also solved the problems with heavy rain overflowing into those compartments. Don't know if this will help anyone or if anyone is interested, just passing on my experience. Photo of Cut outs not that perfect but will use a Drimmel tool to neaten it up later. Most important, it worked.
