Have a 1992 Catalina 30. Last year and this year got water in diesel fuel tank so motor stopped while coming into the dock area (fun sail in!). Any ideas about source? Use an additive, tank 3/4 full.

The typical cause is a bad, worn or missing O-ring on the fuel pipe cap. Adding methanol (i.e., "dri-gas) can cause more problems than it will fix.

The likely culprit is the o-ring seal at the fuel deck fill. You really need to check that and replace if needed. I take the O-ring off the deck cap 2x's a year...wipe it clean and put some silicone lube on it to keep it pliable.

Yes, the "O" ring on the deck fillcap and get and inspect the water separator frequently.

Filler cap -- be sure it's tight, especially over winter when ice can build up and melt from under side. Took 2-3 gals of water out of my tank this past Spring - same exciting event coming into harbor :)
I check racor at least every other time out.
