I have a 1974 21 mac. Water comes into the cockpit from the drain hole where the swingkeel winch cable is. If I sail for about and hour I have about 2 or 3 inches of water in the cockpit. Is something wrong with my drain? Do i need a plug when im sailing? It drains well when the boat is on its trailer. When the boat is in the water but not sailing it doesnt come in, only when i'm sailing. Is this normal??

seems like it scoops the water when moving...is there still room with the cable in place to slide something along side to see if a little something jammed that still stays in place raising or lowering keel...if it drains well like you say it would still drain with a partial obstruction that acts like a scoop when moving...maybe you could rig something on your keel line that would clear the hole when you lowered and raised the keel...would want to be really careful though that you don;t lose whatever you rig up in the drain
A long time ago I owned a Venture 21 which is pretty much the same boat. I had the same problem and used a rubber cork which I slit on one end to allow the cable for the keel to fit thru. It worked very well for keeping the water out of the cockpit which is a common problem with that boat.
