If it has rained between sails on my H26 there is water on the cabin floor. As you look in thru the companionway the puddle is to port in front of the table. It's a relatively small amount but apparently the hatch is leaking somewhere. Anyone else had this happen? Solutions? Thanks.

Common problem..

not sure where it comes from, but my father's H26 has the same issue. It's been discussed here before, but I can't remember the area people mentioned. Try the archives, I think you will find several helpful posts.

I had the same problem and fixed it with Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure. It's cheap and it works.

Teak strip

There is a teak strip on the forward end of the sliding hatch that directs water to the sides. It probably needs to be caulked. Best way is to remove the slider by swinging up the pop top, and while someone holds the slider from falling, remove the screws on the wood channel piece on the port side. The slider will drop down so you can remove it. Then you can caulk or rebed the wood strip. Fair winds, Tom

seal all the way across or else

Make sure you caulk all the way across from side to side or you wasted your time.

Cover

My suggestion is to buy the custom made cover from this site (see attached link). It's about $125 - but it's the cheapest insurance I'm aware of to keep your boat dry. Last year I got about 1" of water in my boat after a severe storm - *cry - it ruined my sole, I never did get all the water out of the bilge & sink the entire season. Now - my boat's been bone dry (knock on wood), with the replaced sole - it looks like a new boat. Tom Grass Grasshopper II 94 H-26 #174

COMPANIONWAY COVER

Bruce… We just put the cover available from the chandlery at this site on our h260 and it keeps the cabin dry. It also keeps it cleaner and cooler! Paul s/v The Lord Nelson

I love my cover too

Me too - I put on the canvas cover to keep out dirt and water and protect the hatch boards. One of my favorite additions. ...RickM...
