I have traced a slow leak back to my Force 10 water heater. Before I start this project does anyone have past experience to share. My boat is a 2004, 326.

Steve, I have no experience with Force 10

water heaters but with water heaters in general most of the leaks are in the connections, it is rare for a leak to occur in the tank in a unit as new as yours.

check the safety valve

The safety overflow valves are notorious for leaking. All it takes is a little piece of grit in there to make it leak.

I Agree With Steve

I had a leak from the water heater to turned out to be from the pressure relief valve on my 2000 C-320.

Connections

Mine also leaked where the cold water source entered the unit. The PO (I'm guessing) installed teh wrong type of cold water fitting. Simply switching the fittings fixed my problem.

When I purchased my boat

the PO had not drained the water heater the previous winter and the tank (which you can't see because it is in a metal box stuffed with insulation)had a split in it like someone had hit it with an ax. Replacing the unit was not too expensive (in the boat world) and was pretty easy. It all depends on your access. Since I couldn't see the leak but kept finding water in the bilge it took a while to figure it out.

Leaking Water Heater

My hot water heater leaked water just from a combination of poor fitted hose clamp and worn out two inch piece of hose. Replaced both and the the leak stopped. I had to use the black hose with the green strip. I agree that a water heater leak you should suspect the connections first.

leak

I was sure that I had a leak in my water heater, but it turned out to be my forward hatch. There was very little sealant under the frame.I think the installer had to buy his own. Water was coming in and running forward above the headliner to the bow, running down under the anchor locker and into the bottom of the boat showing up as a puddle around my heater. Be sure before you go to a lot of work.

Use steel barbs

Plastic pipe & hose barbs should not be connected directly to a hot water tank. Use steel hose barb fittings to connect hoses.
