I need to replace my Raritan water heater but don't want to go down the same route as before. Has anyone replaced or considered to replace the standard water heater with a tankless on demand elecrtric water heater? There are a few marine 120V 20A water heaters out there and at half the cost of the usual replacement.

Have you thought about...

If you go with electric on-demand, how will you heat water when away from shore power? There are propane units you might want to look at...haven't researched 'em, so don't know how cost compares with electric. But you might want to consider that your Raritan water heater has lasted 30+ years... up to 3x longer than any other brand. A new one will fit the same space...the existing plumbing will fit without any alteration. And the new ones have a polymer shell that can't corrode....all of which puts you "back in business" for another 30 years.

My original Raritan 6 galon is giving me trouble so I just purchased a replacement.... Came in the mail today and boy what a beauty! Like Peggie said, a nice polymer shell with no metal on the extrerior.

Cant wait to install!

You DO realize...

You said, "giving you trouble"...You do realize that ALMOST anything that can go wrong with a Raritan water heater except corrosion--even leaking if it's only from the pressure relief valve or the drain petcock--can be fixed with a replaceable part. They're expensive enough that it's sure worth checking with 'em before rushing out to buy a replacement.

yes I know.. have replaced a few parts in the past. However jacket on the tank is completely rusted and broken away from the mounting screws. Should have been mounted off the floor. Also, this season the water was discolored and has a funny smell to it. $650 for years of great service sounds like a deal to me.
Thanks!
