We recently purchased a 1983 C30. I would like to remove the water heater which ties into the M25 diesel engine. Has anyone done this? Any advice? Thanks
I did mine (an 83 CatalinaTR)the winter before last. I rebuilt it and reinstalled and insulated it. Now I have plenty of hot water and it stays hot till morning after an evening sail. Are you replacing the heater? Getting the air out of the cooling system is tedious as the engine temp may run hot if all the air is not removed.
I would just like to remove it for now but am unsure of what to do with the two hoses going into the heater (coolant) and the two hoses exiting the unit (hot water). Is it safe to assume that this will not affect the cooling of the engine? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
coolant to coolant & hot water to hot water. What you are doing is akin to removing the core from the heater on your car. It really shouldn't affect engine cooling, but remember the old cars when they would overheat one trick was to turn heater on full.
