I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I have heard, in the past, about a sacrificial annode inside of a water heater. I have a 6 gallon Atwood water heater in my boat. I can't find a place where the sacrificial annode would exist. I checked the owner's manuel and I didn't see a place for one. I checked the maintenance list of the waterheater and I didn't see a place on changing out the annode. Is it possible that I don't have one? The reason I am checking for this is that, especially in the beginning of the season, my hot water stinks! I mean stinks!!!!!! It smells like rotten eggs (sulpher smell). It goes away, slightly, but if it sits for a few weeks it stinks again. I tried running bleach water through the tank last year and it helped, somewhat. I have drained it several times, also. Does anyone know of anything else that I can do?

Water heater

It is probably a pencil zinc. Look for a brass fitting that looks like a nut unscrew that and it is probably the zinc.

Looked really hard

I have checked my waterheater up and down and I can't find it. I looked at the book and I can't find it. I don't think that it is there. Any other thoughts on how to remove the stink?

Here's the trick, Bad

Get in the habit of always using your hot water faucets on the boat, whether or not you have hot water. This keeps the water always flowing through the heater coil, and it doesn't sit there at all. We've done that for the past nine years and have never had a bad smell, ever. I must admit (to Peggie) that I have downloaded and copied her recommendations for servicing the entire water system. Read it, memorized it, but haven't done it yet. Still no smells on a 20 year old boat system, nine under our care. One of these days I will, but, Bad, try this and stop throwing bleach into the water tanks. Peggie's servicing recommendations have been posted here so many times, that I remember that if you do an archive search you'll find it under "recommendations." If you can't find it, I'll either send it to you or post the link. You try first though, do the homework. :) PS -- our Seaward doesn't have an anode. If your manual says you don't, please help us understand why you're still looking. PPS -- buy her book.
