Boat is a Hunter 44. Help, I have tried Whale fitting onto the input nipple, and after it blew off I tried fitting as shown. It blew off shortly after the water heater was turned on. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Are you certain that is the inlet? Inlets are usually at the bottom of the tank and outlets at the top. It is also customary to install a check valve on the inlet to prevent hot water back flow when the tank is turned on. Inlets are not usually next to the T&P valve.

Check the diameters, the nipple may be slightly smaller than the hose preventing the hose from clamping down. Changing the fitting might be necessary, it just screws in.

I would suggest you remove the smooth walled copper fitting and replace with a brass - or bronze - barbed fitting.
@Jim 5757 hit the nail on the head.

What you're currently trying to grab with with the hose is a slippery piece of copper tube which will fail 100% of the time. You can live with cheap brass adapters as the potable water is reasonably harmless to brass.
