water getting into cabin

I have a 1993 Hunter 27 with the inboard Yanmar diesel. I've noticed after a hard rain, water collects in the storage compartment under the aft berth. It doesn't seem to be coming from the hatch or the port openings as the floor and cushions are dry. The aft bulkhead seems dry too.
Has anyone had the same or similar problem? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I guess in Tulsa, it wouldn't do any good to ask: "Fresh or Salt Water?" :^)))

Does it come from after of the bulkhead or is it in the coaming/winch area?

Can't speak specifically to a Hunter 27, however common leak prone areas are:

• Ports, water follows the edge of headliner or behind something.
• Deck drains. Some manufacturers use PVC elbows that crack and leak.
• Genoa tracks, too many screws.
• Stanchion bases. The sealant fails and water leaks in. (A big cause of leaking stanchions is well intended people grabbing lifelines to move the boat or stop the boat when docking.)
• Hatches, again the sealant fails, water runs along the headliner.
• Most any deck fitting.
• Cockpit drains, see the problem with deck drains.
• Anchor lockers.

Where the water shows up and where it comes in can be very different. Perhaps fellow Hunter 27 owners can help you narrow your search.

As a dealer now retired who introduced that boat for Hunter, I am having some difficulty here so I will be looking up at some photos. Do you have an leaf blower, large sheet of plastic, brush, bucket, soap suds, tape (duck tape) and another person who could help you. First shut all opening ports tightly. Secondly put tape around hatches. Third place one large layer of plastic and tape it over the entire companionway. Slit the plastic and place leaf blower into slit and tape around it sealing that off. Now have real soapy water in the bucket with the second person on board with the bucket and brush. Turn on the leaf blower. Then brush every fitting, hull to deck joint with that soapy water and brush. Where you find air bubbling out is probably a leak. What you are doing is to pressurize the cabin so air has to escape thus looking for air leaks which could by water leakage. Try that and in the meantime I will look at some photos to refresh my memory.
