i am having trouble finding a replacement filter cartridge for my fresh water system. the existing one has absolutely no identifying words or numbers on it. it's the white, 10-12" long x 2" diameter cylinder type. there is a flat black washer fitted in the top and an intake grid in the bottom. i tried a substitute that fit the size criteria but it seemed to have the effect of belaboring my water pump. so, assuming it didn't have the proper flow rate, i removed it before i added a pump to my list of needs. any suggestions on where to find these cartridges? i looked in my west marine catalog and nothing there looked right, either.

Not on the original boat.

Doug: This filter was probably not on the boat when it was new. There is a strainer on the line between the tank and the line to the pump. I believe that your filter was added as an after market item. You can probably assume that yours is also something that is NOT a marine product (probably cheaper and better). You will probably need to go to a Home Depot or Lowes type store and try to match it up. If you cannot find a replacement, maybe you should just find something that can be retro fitted from either a marine supply or a home improvement center that can handle your requirements. Most of these marine pumps are only producing about 3-4 gals/min. of flow. Be sure to check out your strainer and see if there is any blockage there too.
