Last weekend both of my manual water faucets on my 260 intermittently stopped pumping. Air is in the line somehow, because I can see it all the way up at the main tank. If I pump long enough, I can finally get water, but within five minutes, both pumps have lost their prime and air is back in the line. I can't see where any water is leaking out anywhere. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Check your check valves.
My sailing buddy has a 260 that "had" the same problem. He found a small piece of nylon shaving stuck in one of the check valves. Probably came from the tank when the fitting was installed.

On my 240
the faucet always loses its prime after it's been sitting. It's done that since day 1. It pumps fine, but takes 4 or 5 pumps to get it started. I always thought it was normal. Should I investigate?

In response to the 240 - Mine takes sometimes 50 pumps to get it going. I would consider 4-5 quite acceptable. I like the idea that something is in the check valve. That would explain why I can clear the line of air, but after a while, the water drains all the way back to the tank. Thanks

William, Could you please explain a "check valve"? I recently took apart the faucet only to find a long plastic tube that apparently feeds into the larger plastic pipe. thank you

I had the same problem for a year
Ken, I had exactly the same symptoms with my 260 during all of 2000. At the end of the year I brought the boat to Hunter to fix a number of things including the potable water system. The dealer had worked on it several times and failed to resolve the problem. Whatever the Hunter factory did worked perfectly. Both sink pumps now retain their prime even if weeks go by without using the boat. I had planned on upgrading to a pressurized water system, but since they are working so well now, I have put that off. You may want to check with Greg Emerson at Hunter to find out what they do to fix this frustrating water priming problem. Good Luck - Bernie

Just as I was leaving the boat and closing up, my galley faucet stopped flowing. It had only sat a few hours since its last pump. Unfortunaly, I had to leave without investigating. I am returning soon and will let everyone know if I find anything. Could the prime be lost that fast? I don't think I have that big of an airleak anywhere. I had also just filled the tank, would this contribute to the problem?

I have a 26 and I believe the water pumps are the same. If true, there is a check valve under the pump that has the tubing fitting as part of the assembly. If any water is left in the check valve over the winter, it will freeze and cause a crack in the valve housing. If a small crack, the loss of prime will be slow. If a large crack, it can lose prime as soon as you stop pumping. Hunter has replacement check valves so call them for the fix. I still hope we can all get together soon as I can show you the check valve and also the electric pump system I have installed on my 26. I have a 240 and experienced the same problem. I removed the tank and installed a brass swing check velve, available at the big box stores like Home Depot or Lowe's, or any plumbing house. The valve has an arrow which tells you which way the water will flow. The valve lays down with fitting out either end. The large part(the leg of the tee) must be above the vertical axis. I have water with 2 pumps of the handle. The water will not drain back down the line.

i also had a check valve issue & found....
that not only did i have plastic shavings & a cracked check valve, but i also installed an inline water filter at the inlet to the water pump. the uni-directional flow of the filter helps to hold vacumn in the line. (until i get another shaving or crack in the check valve)
