I'm getting a pretty sizable amt of salt water in my aft lazzerette, placed rags around the engine exhaust thru hull area and it's coming in there, this even after I used west systems expoxy to seal around the end of the exhaust hose and built up around the area that the hose mares up to. Ran the engine at the dock and saw no water, but after a passage there is a lot of water in the lower area and the rags I placed around the base of the hose are soaked. Place rags above the area and they are dry, so it must be entering the boat thru the joint, but why not at the dock running? Help

Didn't the Hunters made around that time have storage boxes built into the port & starboard side of the swim platform/transom? If your boat is configured like that chances are that's where the water is entering.

Check thu-hulls, hoses and clamps. Sometimes fresh water that comingles with salty residues in the inner hull might taste a little salty so check all fresh water hoses. Other points of entry are a fouled packing gland or dripless or the rudder seals. Observe, does it only happen when the boat is underway, or when it rains or in certain conditions.

Ci had the dealer remove the rub rail and reveal the hull to deck joint. Under power the stern pushes down and would weep water in. The emergency steering access plate was leaking rain water too

I was getting water underway through the exhaust. it was not apparent when sitting. There was a failure where the exhaust was bent to provide a back seal. Under power, when the stern was washed by a wave, the slit would open and introduce water into the Lazerette. It was raw water from the engine. We only noticed it when the failure was sufficient to allow exhaust gas to reenter the boat and the smoke alarm in the main cabin went off (heavy seas, rain, in the middle of the Chesapeake and lucky we weren't off-shore). I found the leak in the exhaust only by tracking down the exhaust smoke and seeing a gush of water enter the lazerette when a wave lifted the stern.

When we first bought our 44DS in 2007 she came from the factory with this big 4 inch fiberglass tube exhaust below the water line. At some point Hunter got all squeamish about diesel exhaust above the water line. So, before we accepted her I made a survey of local boat yards to find other Hunters and their exhaust configuration. There was no standard. Some above the water line, some below. But I imagined that fiberglass tube could sink the boat. So I had the dealer fiberglass over the hole beneath the water line and install a proper fitting above the water line to accept the exhaust hose. I imagined that exactly what the OP reported could eventually happen. Just bad design in this case by Hunter.
