I have a 1971 O'Day 23. I just purchased it about a month ago. My question is that I don't see any water discharge points in the hull for the bildge pump or one for the galley. If I'm to put in a automatic bilge pump, anyone have any ideas on how to install a discharge tubing thru the hull? Also I have what looks like a marine head in the boat, it looks like a porta potti, yet it has a holding tank and has two tubes running thru it, one for dock-side flushing..and another leading lord knows where in the boat....yet again, not thru-hull discharge outlets..any ideas ?? Thanks Mark

Water Discharge

I also own a 1979 O'Day 23, my sink discharges out a through-hull fitting on the starboard side just before the transom. The icebox does not have a drain, that just flows into the bilge. Many of these boats do not have bilge pumps, I did add one to my boat. Actually the hull is quite thin in spots, and drilling a hole for a through-hull fitting is quite easy. If you check the archives on this site you will find some good advice on how to install a bilge pump. Just watch the rated capacities, and use the proper size hose. Also, make sure you install it high enough and loop some hose to prevent water from returning. I do have a self contained porti-potti so I cannot help you with that.
