Does any body know when I can get a replacement water deck plate/cap for my 1984 catalina 30. I was filling one of the two water tanks and the deck plate/cap went over board. I had a local marina store do a catalog search but they could not find a replacement in any of their catalogs. The deck plate/cap has on the inside of the cap a CW and a dimension of 1-1/2. According to the marina store CW was the namer of the old company that made the cap and is no longer in existance.

Where can I get a new/replacement deck plate/cap or have any ideas?

Cut off the little metal "string" and never depend on it. Remove the cap, place it in the cockpit, do your thing and then screw the cap back in.

You're not the first.:)

CatalinaDirect offers plastic cover replacements in blue (water), reb (fuel) and black (waste). They are inexepensive replacements ($19.00 each). The plastic cap colors are very vivid but after months under the sun and exposed to UV they begin to fade. Salt spray might accelerate fading. I wrote CatalinaDirect about this and back then they understood the problem, but could not guarantee the pieces from fading. Home Depot/Lowe's sells a sprayable "plastic coat paint" that is available in blue that will do a great job to restore appearance. The caps have never warped and have maintained a good seal. Otherwise you can also get the entire metal deck pipe and cap unit for about $30.00. If you want to keep all caps on deck stainless then this is the way to go. Either way replacements are available from any vendors.

Bruce - the CW is chrittenden wilcox (sp) who are no longer manufacturing that part. My 83 Cat fuel cap cracked and neither I nor my local marine store could find a replacement with the right size. I finally found an old cap/deck plate in a marine surplus made by CW from which I used the cap. I was very close to having to order a new deck plate and cap from catalina direct and switch out the old deck plate. Good luck

Hi Bob,

It sounds like you purchased those replacement deck fill caps from CatalinaDirect. Did they work in the orig equip deckfills? I called them and they gave me the thread specifications of the replacement @ 1-13/16 dia. and the orig cap is 1-7/8 dia. as posted on the CatDirect site. Please let me know if those replacements work.

Thanks,
Ken

If I do the math correctly, that's a 1/16 difference in diameter. The trick is NOT the diameter, but the threads. The CD ones worked on my C34, 1986, bought the plastic caps in 1998, they're still workin' and have repainted them. Almost time for new ones. If they're on the CD website for your vintage C30, they should work. If not, buy 'em, try 'em and return 'em. C'mon...

Bruce,
Whitecap makes a 316 stainless steel deck fill cap w/flange & key #6125c (west marine $29.99). It's a 3" flange. They also have cap replacements. You may have to drill new holes but I would bet the holes will line up.

Give them a call. They can probably tell you if it is a direct changeout of if the cap threads are the same.

Don't fret, should be an easy fix..........

Ken,
They work just fine. Much has to do on how hard you tighten down on that rubber gasket. Snug is just fine. Again, you can paint them if they fade on you, which they will in time. Mine have held up for several years and have not cracked, warped or leaked (or at least I do not think they leak!). They should be an easy and affordable replacement at Catalina Direct.
