Ross,

My wife had back surgery in 2004, L34 to 4 and 4 to 5 were fused. Prior to that she was virutally chair ridden. She worked really hard for months on the therapy to stretch ligaments, build strength, and regain fitness and went through a lot of discomfort doing it.

The good news - since then we have driven to Alaska and back 3 times and each time canoed 2 weeks on the Yukon River, sailed an aggregate of months on our HC37, bicycled a ton, canal boated in Belgium and England and are planning a bicycle trip in Germany later this year as well as a full year of sailing.

We feel so lucky to be alive in this day and age and place where we can get this kind of help. We hope it works out for you.
Thank you. That is the kind of story I like to hear. The quality of diagnosis and treatment has improved so rapidly in the last 10-15 years that the horror stories of the 50's are a thing of the distant past.

i know how to make the knots however my disabilities are in my hands and i am no longer able to tie the knots to do the pretty stuff--i can manage on the boat as i donot need to use thumbs for sailing but i am not able to use thumbs to open jars or knot macrame..or knit or sew without a machine -- dequervains tendon synovitis has crippled both thumbs now---go figger--got it from intensive care nursing duties--no good deed goes unpunished--ty ross for the offer--i try to do what i am able to do and make some stuff that is sorta cool--lol---but i can sail in warm water realllly well LOl---is where i am headed as soon as weather window allows--

I can empathize I am right hand dominate and fractured my right thumb distal years ago. Fine now but even turning a key was an exercise.

My 376 is on the hard at Lake Champlain cold and lonely. Like me..... I bought some canvas bags with "Captain" and "...(insert boat name here)" embroidered on them., and a set of 8 whiskey glasses (I'm a Rum and Scotch man) etched with skull and crossbones. I know glass is not the sailors friend, but I'll be careful, and use them only for special occasions, like drinking. I'm not 100% sure of what I'll name her, but have narrowed it down to two choices. It''s my first boat. I sail every year in the BVI's to keep my skill set.

I just read a friend's account of his charter experience on Lake Champlain last summer. They went to Valcore Island and Burlington. Sounded real nice. Great views, history and towns. He also had some great sailing. Hang in there spring is in the air around here.

If I had a choice

Ross, I understand about the back deal. Have been debating similar surgery for a few years now. Not gonna do it as long as I can put it off. Given a choice, I would much rather have the snow. But both, YUK.

I will post a report of the success or lack thereof as I know more.
I saw the surgeon today that will do my hip in April and he couldn't understand how I am able to walk. One thing at a time. This is the year that Ross gets a refit. maybe I will be recommissioned by mid summer.

Up here in the PNW the weather has been warmer than usual. Quite a few good sailing days lately, unfortunately for me....my sails are at sail care.
