Hello, I've recently moved up from a Rhodes 19 to our wonderfull little Catalina 27 hull #58. Anyway, the very first thing we need is a waste water holding tank for the head. Is there a kit or a place to buy the nessary componets to put it all together. We have the dinette style 27 with plenty of room next to the head for a holding tank. Any help in the right direction would be great. Terry & Margaret Hill

Check with Catalina

Check with Catalina. If they can't supply you with one designed to fit, I'm sure you can get something from West Marine or another supplier. I mounted a standard tank from West Marine under the v-berth of a C-27 that I used to own. There are also flexible, bladder type tanks available, but I hear that they tend to not be as odor tight as the rigid tanks.

Our plan

We have a 1972 Catalina 27. Same challenge. Our plan is to mount a holding tank in under the dinette in the forward seat area. If your cabin arrangement is the same your pump-out hose goes through to this area anyway. Most of my knowledgeable sailing buddies have advised me to "just do it". My biggest challenge is the gate valve Catalina seemed to like installing instead of a ball valve. There were some earlier posts about "stacking" valves and we may try this until we pull the boat next year for bottom painting, etc. You might also want to check the local library and look for books on upgrading your sailboat (i.e. for cruising). I've found some really neat ideas this way and most are realitively simple. The best advice I've been given is to use the more expensive hose which helps with odor problems and lasts longer in the long run. also, remember to double clamp your hoses!! Good luck. Would love to know how it goes for you...jse

Head Mistress

For in depth answers , ask Peggy. Check out her "Head Mistress" forum on this site - she's a goddess! She also sells uniquely shaped & sized holding tanks (as well as other stuff, I'm sure). If you want something special, she'll have it. She'll also advise agains the flexible tanks - too iffy. Good luck - you'll love it (till it gets plugged)! LaDonna

hhad head problems myself

catalina direct 8009597245 they can sell you the parts that you need and even upgrade to larger optional tanks depending on your plans of use of the vessel. (racers like small tanks placed by the keel, Cruisers can mount a tank in the vee berth that holds 32gal.
