I have an 81 catalina 30 and have noticed that the waste line going from the tank to the maserator pump is bulging with blisters. I went to West Marine and found out that the similar line is what is now used for exhaust line. Apparently a rubber hose wrapped with a fiberous tape of some sort. This appears to be the last part of the original waste system since they showed me the new stuff (white tubing) is used for sanitary line. My question is this -- How do I flush out the system so I don't have raw sewage running through my hull, thus causing me to barf and create more raw effluence in my bilge. this boat has an unknown history of waste removal for about 2 years. I have flushed at dock an refilled with water through the waste receptical removal port with fresh water and repeated but every time I get muck out of the stantion vent portal when I fill with water to capacity. Is it possible to completely clear out the muck at the bottom of the tank? I've been using the West Marine treatment which has cut down on smell but I would like to know if I can totally clear and clean pump the system out before I start to remove hoses. Thanks

messed with mine when I got my C30

I had a problem with my Tank level indicator when I got my 85 C30. I did like you did and kept flushing with fresh water through the pump out, It takes at least 4 to 5 times of doing that to get "almost" all of it out. I do it every year when getting ready to winterize the boat. You should also take your hose and blast water INTO the stanchion vent to blast spiders & such out of there. Then later (a month) I actually removed the bung with the float and removed paper from the float. The smell was just that of the little bit of blue stuff that I put back in after the multiple pump outs. Another thing I learned in my research is that a tank can "go hard" if the previous owner didn't pump out properly over a long period of time. Go to the Head Mistress for more research on venting & other problems. Good luck, Dean

I forgot to mention that someone had already bypassed the OLD macerator.
