waste cap stuck

Hi all, I wanted to pump the waste tank as we do not know how long it is since it was emptied. However the cap on deck is stuck, I tried force as well as hammer but its not budging. I did also noticed that the screws around it were loose from before I started so I suspect someone tried to open it as well, making the socked for the cap loose on the boat and the screws almost giving no grip to stop it from rotatingwe are considering replacing the toilet anyways and perhaps will make this part of the process but we'd very much like to clean up the tank for the rest of the winter. Anyone had experience with this or know how the cap (and its socket) is attached to the boat ?any help would be appreciated

Had it happen as well

I had it happen on a previous boat. Nothing I did would break it loose. Seems as though the previous owner never bothered to use the tank or keep the threads on the cap clean. I ended up replacing the entire thru hull assembly. It's been a few years since I did it but as I recall I loosened the clamps on the hose on the underside of the thru hull fitting, then removed the screws from the topside that hold it to the deck. I was able to work it off at that point. You should be able to buy a new thru hull fitting from Beneteau, see their website for a logon password. You might try soaking it with something like WD40 overnight then try loosening it again. Good luck.Mike

Had it happ this fall

The waste cap seems to be an ongoing problem that is why Beneteau now has gone to stanless. I removed it and tried everything from WD40 to heat. Save yourself some time and just replace it.Steve

The deck pumpout fitting on my B361 was seized solid.It was a simple replacement with a stainless fitting fromWest Marine.

Standard size

I just picked one off the shelf. Make sure its a deck access for 'waste' and it will fit the hose. I also boughta small tube of lubricant to help get the fitting into thenew hose. The West Marine guys should be able to fix you up.To install the fitting I first removed the access panelbehind the head to give me some working room. It tooktwo of us, one to hold the waste hose from below deckwhile I turned it off from topsides. I then bedded thenew fitting with some 5200 lubed the hose and slid the newfitting down. Probably 1 hour total.Later I added a Snake River tank monitor to the waste tank.

5200 bedding?

Won't using 5200 as bedding make it difficult if not impossible to remove the fitting in the future? Would silicone be better? I've not used 5200 but have heard once it bonds it's permanent.

I will be trying this friday if the weather is ok. the store recomended sealing it with silicone... I didnt check about glue but the bolts should hold it in place so it can be replaced later, the silicone would seal out water. I'll let you know how it works out atleast at first test of it

thanks Stan and Mike for the excellent tips, just installed the new cap. Standard westmarine fit nicely. It's now assembled with epoxy and thru hull screws and nuts, great fit and sits perfect. Will be checking for leaks but with the amount of sicilone there I'd be impressed.thanks again guys !Gaute
