The PO of my 260 had a couple of dogs that he would take sailing. Having alergies, I want to wash all the interior seat covers. Is it OK to wash these with the house washing machine or are these a dry cleaning item? Its not like they are filthy dirty but visible dog hairs and I'm sure some dander. Has anyone removed these and washed them?

Went Through the Same Thing ...................

...................... a couple of years ago. Every dry cleaner I took the cushions to wouldn't touch them. Said that once you took the covers off and dry cleaned them, they shrunk were finished.

We were having our carpets cleaned that spring and I asked the cleaner if he had any bright ideas. Said he had done this before in that the covers are left ON the foam and then he uses his upholstery cleaning equipment to clean the covers. Left them in the house to dry for a few days and the results were perfect. Will get the cushions re-done the next time the carpets are done.

My solution to having clean cushions was to call the local chartering companies and see where they had their boat cushions clean. They all told me about one company that came and took the cushions off the boat, cleaned them and then brought the cushions back and reinstalled them. And it wasn't that expensive.

'84 H25.5 I took the V Birth covers off the sponge, washed with tide, spun dry on gentle cycle with no issues. Fit nice, smell great! The main cabin cushions have the buttons with the through string. With these, I have to remove the buttons. Before I do that I want to make some nice clips to hold the buttons together without using string. Once these are ready, I will wash those cushions as well. The aft cushions also got washed. One peice had a mold soiled section. It disintergrated. The Admiral said she will sow a patch in there. Luckily it is in an area which cannot be seen. They too came out well.

I could not remove the covers from my H23 cushions, due to the buttons. I ended up using the hose and brush unit from our rug shampooer. It worked fairly well last season, however I had some leaking, probably through the port chainplate and then through the bulkhead, that stained the port settee cover. I don't know how effective it will be on these brown stains.
