I have a Capri 16 with the original sails. They're in excellent shape but a bit dirty with slitht mildew. What's the best way to clean them... by hand on the lawn with a brush or in the washing machine? Thanks
I would not recommend putting sails in a washing machine because it will most likely harm the sail.Click on the related link to take you to an article at SailNet titled, "Sail Care and Cleaning"
I cleaned our main with Oxyclean and Tide detergent in the bathtub agitating by hand and scrubbing the bad spots with a brush. I think I soaked it for a few hours too before rinsing it out several times in the tub. Then I took it outside and strung it up between three convenient points and hosed it off really well and let it dry. I thought it came out pretty good and the little mildew that was on it was gone. I will do the other sails next spring.G'luckJohn
