I have a Capri 16 with the original sails. They're in excellent shape but a bit dirty with slitht mildew. What's the best way to clean them... by hand on the lawn with a brush or in the washing machine? Thanks

I would not recommend putting sails in a washing machine because it will most likely harm the sail. Click on the related link to take you to an article at SailNet titled, "Sail Care and Cleaning"

This worked for me ...

I cleaned our main with Oxyclean and Tide detergent in the bathtub agitating by hand and scrubbing the bad spots with a brush. I think I soaked it for a few hours too before rinsing it out several times in the tub. Then I took it outside and strung it up between three convenient points and hosed it off really well and let it dry. I thought it came out pretty good and the little mildew that was on it was gone. I will do the other sails next spring. G'luck John
