Has anyone installed a washdown pump recently? Where did you install it? How do you like it? What GPM rating is it? We are on a mooring and am getting tired of the old "bucket brigade" to clean off the boat. Give me the good, the bad and the ugly!! Thanks!! Bob S/V Never Say Never

Go to Forum Archives and search on "washdown" in "titles". Some good info there. Three questions, lots of answers.

I made one

I amde one from a tackle box, a 12 volt wash down pump from boat us, some hoses and fittings, and a $40 recharable jump battery from boat us.. One end of the hose went over the side and then to the pump intake.. the output side of the pump had the wash down hose.. and the jump start battery provided power.. took about three minutes to assemble.. the battery lasted nearly all season before recharging it.. and the pressure was the same as a regular wash down.. the difference was that I didn't drill any holes in the boat.. kept the whole think on board.. and only brought the battery in once to chage..

Let's see it!

Jim: Your "No-drill/No holes" washdown invention seems very cool. Why not post a picture or two of your device for all to share! Great idea.

washdown pump

I recently installed an old diaphragm pump that came with the boat when I bought It in 2000 (H 33). The pump draws seawater off the line that leads to the head ,just past the seavalve. I wired a switch and a fuse on the 12 volt breaker panel. The pump and a 15' coil of gardenhose are stored in the under seat starbord lazerette. because the pump has a pressure switch , I don't need a switch topside. System works real good for hosing down fish guts and blood, plus its good for mid summer cooling off showers.

wash down

My washdown is similiar to Don's, except 1) I put a sea water strainer in the head line and tee'd after the strainer, 2) also put an antisiphon valve in the line to the head, 3) bought a real washdown pump from BoatUS. the sea water strainer keeps both the w/d pump and head free of little critters that Peggie likes to talk about.
