The Centrifugal Clutch does not provide neutral when the motor is started! You have to start the motor in gear and what a few minutes for the engine to warm up. Then the idle can be lowered and the motor will go into neutral. Honda does not tell you this before you buy the engine. Retailers hesitate to start the motor for you before you buy, wonder why! In my opinion this defeats the purpose of having the Centrifugal Clutch in the first place. Honda says this is the way the engineers designed it. As engineer I say it is not safe! Imagine you start the engine and your boat goes flying off and hits something. One of your crew falls off the dingy and hits the prop!

Really not a problem

I've had one of the Honda 2's with centrifigal clutch now for a few years and never had a problem with starting it. At least not the I've noticed. If you think it's bad, don't ever try one of the older ones without netural! I had an older Johnson for a while that really took off as soon an it engaged.
