I have an older Cold Machine (1992)that no longer cools adequately. The compressor and the fan on the condenser both cycle on and off. I have concluded the refrigerant(CFC-12) needs to be recharged. Because consumers are no longer "qualfied" to use CFC-12, I checked with a local service company and was quoted "a couple of hundred dollars" for a service call and a recharge. Rather than spending money to service a 10 year old system, I have been contemplating replacing the condenser. Now my question: If I replace the condenser, must I also replace the evaporator or will the older evaporator operate with the new refrigerants?I appreciate your reply.
