I know that there are boat owners out there that have purchased a Lectra San and for some reason never installed it. I've seen them in the BoatUS magazine but I've always been too late. I just missed a last three minute bid for one on EBay last evening. I had the highest bid going into the last few minutes and thought I was the winner. This unit was a few years old but never installed. I'm replacing the original one in my 1981 Pearson 323. Thanks, Tarheel

in a recent post that those units on Ebay have problems. Seems they are old models, etc. See her post in the past few weeks. Changed my mind on bidding for them on Ebay.

I didn't say don't EVER bid...

I said let me see the listing before you do. I just checked for Lectra/San listings...using "lectra/san" as the search term, there are two listed. The one Fore and Aft Marine is selling is a brand new unit, complete...a good buy. The other one is the current MC model, so should be ok...but I don't see a control module in the photo. That's another $350 list if it's not included, which would make the current high bid of $250 no bargain. Ask the seller before bidding. Also ask if it's been tested dry to make sure it works...if it has, pass on it...running it dry damages the electrodes. Two more turned up when I searched for "marine sanitation"...one is so old it predates not only the current MC version, but the previous EC version as well. And the controller is missing. Don't touch it with a fork! The other one is brand new, but his price is $100 more than the one from Fore and Aft Marine (who, btw, has been selling 'em on eBay for quite a while...their price just went up. They told me last week it was about to). There are usually 2 or 3 L/S's on eBay...when you see one you think you want to bid on, just email me a link to the listing...I'll tell you whether to bid on it or not.

Btw, Tarheel...

If it's the one that went for $530, count your blessings that you did miss that one. It's more than a few years old...more like 20+. The dial controller is the give-way...it's the original and so obsolete that Raritan no longer offers any parts for it. After sitting that long, the lubrication in the motors has settled and most likely congealed...all the rubber parts have long since dried out and deteriorated and will require replacing...and if it's been sitting in a salt air environment, there's likely to be some internal corrosion. By the time you got it working, you'd have spent more than a new one.

Cheaper than eBay

Fore and Aft Marine is selling LectraSans on their web site for $50 less than on eBay.

That's prob'ly only because

They haven't updated the price on their website yet. Their website and eBay prices have been the same all year. I talked to 'em just a few days ago...to find out if they have salt tanks (they do) and their price for 'em (excellent)...they told me their price was about to go up. I'm amazed they could sell 'em for $699 for as long as they did...they must have bought a zillion of 'em last year 'cuz Raritan had a major price increase the first of this year. They seem like good people, btw.

Cheaper than Ebay

Where is Fore and Aft Marine located? Could/would you please supply me with the web site or E-mail address. Thanks, Tarheel

They're not cheaper than eBay...

They sell on eBay, but their reserve price is the same as their direct price. A google search for "fore and aft marine" turned up their website...took about 30 seconds. http://www.foreandaftmarine.com/

But Buy It Now is higher

Peggy: They sell on their web site for $699 and list a Buy It Now price on eBay of $750. You may know what their reserve price is but that's not something a bidder would know.

<sigh>...their buy it now price IS their reserve

price...and also their retail selling price. You can figure this out for yourself if you search their completed auctions...not a one has sold for less than $699. Any high bids that were lower failed to meet the reserve, and therefore didn't sell. Anyone stupid enough to bid more than $699 should have checked the price on the website before bidding. If they haven't raised the price from $699 on their website yet, I would try ordering one online. You're not gonna do any better on eBay...and because they haven't changed the price on their website yet, you might actually get it for $699...which has been the lowest price from a brand new L/S I've seen in at least two years.

Why are you sighing?

I don't know why you're the one sighing. You seem to want to argue that the eBay price is better. All I keep trying to point out is that until such time as they change their own web site, they charge $50 more on eBay. This was purely a public service on my part; I have no interest in buying one.
