I want to install a boom vang on my mac 22 but the mast base lacks attachment point. after googling, I think I can do something like in picture #1 below (using some kind of bail, pointed to by the arrow) or the mast track? anyone knows where to get that kind of bail? is the mast track a good idea? thanks

A bail would be the ticket but what about a BoomKicker? I mounts in the sail groove. It replaces the topping lift. More money (what idea isn't). I like mine anyway.

Boomkickers are great, but they REQUIRE a soft boomvang to operate. The boomkicker pushes the boom up. The vang is still needed to hold (pull) it down.
The bail you show in your picture is made & supplied by Boom Kicker. I actually had one for my vang / mast attachment and also the main sheet / boom attachment on a 18.5 I once owned. They work great.
the type shown is nice but expensive.
a regular stainless boom bail will work fine, as that is what most smaller craft is set up with..... and shop around, you can pay anywhere from $8 to $68 dollars for a simple bail of the 3" size you need.....
