Has anyone added cam cleats to a 23.5 to handle the jib sheets? I was wondering if there is sufficent support under the winches that I could screw one down next to each of them? Any comments or other ideas?

I just did this recently. Used tap and die (#32) set from Home Depot( about $10.00) to drill holes. Used spinlock cams and they work great. Place some 5200 on bottom of cleats and around when securing to boat. Good-Luck!!!

placement
consider the placement of your cleats. i placed them inside the winches, which i never saw anywhere else. this has worked well - a tad cramped but really has worked great.

Same Holes
The PX Cleats will go into the same holes those Damn Jam Cleats come out of. The only wrinkle is that you must take a Dremel Tool to the cleat to get the head to be counter sunk. The cleat is made for a metric screw (6mm I think) it is between a #12 and 1/4" one. You could probably bolt teak risers in as I did and use #12 screws to hold the cleat to the riser. It was not difficult to alter the cleats at all.

Cam cleats placement
Every one to his own, But I have found tha normal jib sheet adjustment is done from the opposite side of the boat, so I placed the cleats faceing away from the winches. Now if you go to the photo that Carl has provided, move the cleat from where it is, to just above the letter "C"in the word CAM.Then instead of faceing it down, face it twords the letter "T" in the word CLEAT. Now at this angle your crew or yourself can sit on the windward side and control the jib. What do you think?? Dave B.

No Need for the Winches
My 10 year old daughter handles the sheets just fine. The jib is not big enough to need them. That made the cleat placement much easier fo me.
