Hello, I am making a walkway to get on and off my 30'ft hunter. It will be lightweight for easy removal . My ? is connecting it to the side, am thinking about hooking a couple of hooks to it that can swing into the holes along the side. Any thoughts?

Lots of nails?

Seriously, though, please make it clear if you are making a walkway that attaches to your boat? Dock? And what are the holes along the side, perforated toe-rail? How long will this walkway be? I'm not getting what you're trying to do.

Think about using an aluminum ladder, with a flat surface (diamond plate) attached to one side.
this works well flat, and you can flip it over if the grade is high, for traction.
-Storage? good luck.

Maybe check out Harbor Freight for loading ramps to modify. I was going to make a ramp for getting the dog onboard. I want it to fold up so I can store it on the boat though.

Assuming you have a perforated toe rail, attaching to that makes sense, but open hooks could work their way out of the holes as the boats moves. My thought would be put an eye-bolt on the outside of each walkway rail and use carabiners through the eye and the toe rail.

ya but my thought is that the hooks with right shape and direction (where you have to pick walkway completely vertical) and wheels on bottm of walkway would stay hooked

While it's totally unrelated, the coolest gangplank (or 'passerelle' in Europe) ever has to belong to the Elan 400. This open transom boat has a seating plank across the transom, that converts to a passerelle. It has tiny wheels on the bottom of one side. And a SS post that goes into a special hole on the transom floor on the other. The wheels allow the boat to move to and fro when tied stern-to. Because most boats med-moor, this is a real issue for most. Sweet!
