What year did the Catalinas have a walk through transom? I have an '83 Catalina 30' now, but hope to step up to a 34' or a 350 in the near future. My wife doesn't like climbing up the ladder in our 30' and says that the next boat must have the walk through. Thanks for the input. Tony

Mid Year 1990

The walk through transom was first introduced in the mid 1990 model year. It was first released as a sugar scoop transom (no walk through) and later that year it became a true walk through. I have an early 1990 #988 that is not a walk through. Would love to have one, but at the time (1997) a used 1990 walk through was getting a 10K premium over a non walk through. I believe there was a discussion on the Catalina 34 Web Site sometime ago where 1990 owners were posting there haul number and if it was a walk through or not. See link below.

Also, in general any 3 digit boat, 270, 310, 320

etc. has been built using hull & liner construction method first adopted by Catalina with the 270 in '93 (?) & therefore probably has walk-thru transom. The 28's also have a walk thru for all boats I believe. The 310 was actually supposed to be the newest version of the 30 but was different enough that they gave it 310 designation. The 30 was so popular that Catalina has said in the past they will continue to produce "some".

My Catalina 28 has a walk-thru transom. I just walk around the wheel, drop the swim ladder and walk off in to the lake. Very nice on a hot day. Jason
