I ordered a main sail from Catalina Direct on February 11th and still no sail. Called three times and was told it was coming. Ullman who does their sails said about the same. Is this to be expected? I'm losing patience.

Shop Around

If the sail was promised by a certain date and they failed to meet their self imposed deadline by a reasonable factor, I would look for an alternative for the following reasons: I would be concerned about their loft(undoubtedly a subcontractor) taking the care necessary to make the sail if they are that backlogged. What if there is a problem with the sail? How long to correct it if at all. Perhaps projection on my part, but is the loft putting you at the end of the line to make more profitable sails? General principles. If you go to Tasker sails or one of their franchises you would probably get the sail under 30 days. Ulmer, on this site, now has 42 day turnaround. Not bad considering the time of year. Since you have been waiting 90 days I would check with others and cancel my existing order. Since their service already is sub par.

Seems long, but...

Do keep in mind that this is the peak of the season for sailmakers. The queue can get long.

Different experience

Last summer I bought a new main and genoa for my Ericson from Mack Sails in Florida. They said 3 weeks and they were right. The sails are beautiful and I was very impressed with the company's willingness to take plenty of time to talk with me about my concerns and questions. We even made a couple of changes during the process, and neither the delivery date nor the cost were affected.

They told me 4 to 6 weeks. Then they told me it went overseas. They also took $200 plus as a deposit so I can't shop around.

Three months? Don’t you mean two?

Last time I checked, February 11 to April 11 is only sixty days, a.k.a. two months. Nevertheless, two months is still a bit too long. You might try communicating by letter as phone calls and e-mails have a way of disappearing. A letter can demonstrate a greater degree of earnestness on your part than phone or e-mail. If you take the time and effort to compose, write and send a letter, then potentially it may receive more weight from the vendor.

had mine within a few weeks....

if u haven't received it by now, I would only assume you made a phone call to catalina direct.I did and was informed that my sail was just awaiting the c-22 insignia to be placed on the sail, then it would be delivered. again, only like three weeks for delivery..

Thanks to all who responded. Yesterday 4-14-04 I received email from Ullman giving me a tracking ups number-ground from California. However, they also said they did not receive the order from Catalina Direct until 3-19-04. I called Catalina Direct to order the sail on 2-11-04. Something is wrong between them. I wanted to order a new genoa, but if I do I will order from Ullman and not through Catalina Direct
