Hi, My wonderfull C-30 has developed a disturbing vibration when I engage the drivetrain. No vibes when I run the engine in neutral, even at high revs. When the prop is spinning the vibes are undetectable at low revs but increase when the throttle is increased. Any advice on what to start looking for? Thanks Ian Sloop Du Jour

Zincs?

On possibility is/are the zinc(s). If they degrade unevenly this can cause vibration, or if one half is thrown it will be much worse. Bent propeller shaft - did the prop strike something and bend the taper section? Did the vibration just start overnight or has this been gradual?

Ian; Sounds like a bent shaft or prob blade, maybe a motor mount.

Long bumpy road

Hello Ian, The question of where to begin is a massive one. Vibration tied to Rpm’s can indicate many forms, engine produced or running gear produced vibrations. Its been my experience that engines are first gone through to find that the propeller had some kind of anomaly. (or visa versa) I would start at the propeller end and work my way forward. In more cases then not we find that the propeller is the root to the problem. It suffers from the greatest possibility of damage due to its location and exposure. The engine end, unless it was catastrophic, should not develop vibrations over a period of time. That however does not mean that the injectors are slowly degrading and that’s the problem. I would start looking over, cleaning and tightening what items I find comfortable to deal with and trial and error the system. I wish I could say change the prop and zap your problem is gone, but sorry chasing down vibration can be more irritating then the actual vibration. Good Luck. Kevin.
