Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with the variable speed water pumps that most all producers are making now? Tim R.

I do

I had one that failed after one year. the warranty was three years. It was replaced. We are on the second season with it. So far, I like the pump. It is generally quite quiet.

Me, too

I installed one last year to replace an incredibly noisy pump and have been quite pleased. I haven't used it long enough to comment on durability, but I'm delighted so far. (I bought it new on eBay for about 60% of its list price.)

Me three

I recently purchased the Jabsco Sensor Max VSD from Defender to replace the orginal non VSD pump that died. I've been very pleased. At low speeds it's very quite with no cycling which is of course what a VSD does. At high speeds it's still quieter than the original, although not near as quiet than at low speeds.

Nice upgrade

I really like the Jabsco Sensor Max 14 that I installed this past winter. But take note of the water pressure rating if you like high water pressure. Ours is rated around 30 psi. I say around, because the published ratings are not consistent. I’m fine with the pressure on ours, even though it is less than the unit it replaced. I think the lower pressure is easier on our limited water supply. There are a number of units rated up to 80 psi, but I thought that might be excessive for our plumbing. The lack of pulsing is worth the switch. And it is pretty quiet though not silent.
