Volvo Penta what kind?? First 285

Trying to change my oil but, my manual is for Volvo Penta 2001, 2002, 2003, & 2003T models. I think mine is a '01 or '02 but, not sure. The boat is a 1988 Beneteau First 285. Does anyone know which engine I have based on that bit of info? Thanks in advance.

I liked to use Volvo parts and replacements when I could, and have the proper part number (or even a schematic printout) when dealing with a parts or supply store clerk who said they'd never seen or heard of the part that I was looking for…

IIRC, that manual is quite terse, and some of the relevant information is contained in the illustrations. I'd recommend studying it well (when you're not under the time constraints of a 'project') and then making yourself a quick reference sheet containing all of the part/filter numbers and any other specs that you'll need regularly.

Thanks a ton! Changed the oil and filter. Now the engine is trying to overheat with plenty of antifreeze and a new heat exchange. I've come to enjoy almost all the problems with a sailboat except engine problems. Gotta take the good with the bad I suppose. My friend thinks he has a good idea about what the problem may be though. Also, thanks for the names of the shops that I can get parts. I've been using a place out of Kemah, I think it's called Gunnar's Marine. He's a Volvo penta mechanic from Switzerland, seems like the real deal. Adios and thanks again!
