Hey all, there is water leaking at my water pump, not Leaking from impeller cover plate but from behind as in the picture. Leak tends to slow down a little as engine heats up but still persists. Is there a seal in there that needs replacing? Or maybe the whole water pump?

Yes there is a seal in there. There should be a rebuild available from a Volvo parts dealer.

Easy rebuild yourself if you are a bit handy. If mechanically challenged you can send if off to Depco in Florida for a rebuild. They probably also have new or rebuilt pumps for purchase.
The best source for a new pump is in the UK. I'm on my phone now and I don't have the link to the supplier but I'll post it later. They are easy to order, ship fast too. They have prices that can't be beat. They have many spares for Volvo & Perkins engines.

There are usually two seals: one for water and one for oil.
The hole you see is called a weep hole and is essentially a telltale that let's you know the seal(s) needs to be replaced.
Maine Sail has a how to on his website, here's how I did mine, different pumps, same concept. Some people who don't yet feel up to replacing their own seals either get new pumps or have somebody do it for them (usually costs as much as a new pump due to labor cost - read my link, I did,, too, the first time).

Thanks! If you wouldn’t mind sharing that supplier in case I go the route replacing whole thing.

Check them out:

They offer an OEM Volvo raw pump for $584 and a aftermarket pump for $345. They also offer a rebuild kit for $65. The rebuild kit is complete (seals, bearings, O-rings, impeller, wear plate, cover plate, screws) except for the shaft itself. If the shaft is scored and causing the leak your options are to buy the shaft separately from Volvo (probably $200+) or a new pump (or Depco rebuild), or put a SKF - Speedi-Sleeve on your existing pump shaft to cover the score.

It is most likely that the shaft is fine, but you won't know that until disassembly.

It is always a great plan to have a spare pump onboard, so you might want to buy a version of the new pump and also the rebuild kit. You can then keep one of them as a spare. At least that is what I have done. YMMV.
