Volvo 2003 Alternator Upgrade or Repaclement

Is there a recommended non OEM replacement for the alternator on the Volvo 2003??

If you were to upgrade what you recommend?

I put a Powerline (100 amp) on my Volvo 2003 when it was still in my Merlin. I think you have to get the saddle mount type if I remember right. Also had to get a high tensile bolt. Of course you'll also need a smart regulator. I got rid of the engine after one trip south.

Most of those old 2003's just used a 1" or 2" foot mount (Delco style) and most every high performance alt company makes a 1" or 2" foot mount. Any 1" foot mount will fit a 2" with a 1" spacer....

I run a 100 amp Balmar 621 series alternator and a AR-5 smart charger on my Volvo 2003. I initially had problems with belt dusting and slippage and discussed this with Balmar. They recommended a slightly larger pulley on the alternator and an adjustment to the start-up charge cycle. I incorporated both with good success for the past 7 years.
