Volve D2-55 wont circulate raw water

I started the boat and noticed the exhaust was not discharging water as it should, eventually it stopped discharging water all together. I changed the impeller, took all the hoses off and cleaned them. I turned over the engine and the raw water pump and impeller was turning. made sure the raw water strainer was clear along with the hoses. I took a 5 gallon bucket of water and pulled the hose off the intake sea cock to see if it is drawing water, no water was being drawn.
Could I have lost the prime?
Any suggestions?

Internal clearances within the pump could be excessive . Had a buddy this pass season with the same problem new impeller ,checked everything, was ready to purchase a new 700.00 pump. gave it to me ,I spent 3 hours hand lapping front cover and rear of pump removing wear . Put it back on ,it never pumped so much water, flat surface, such as glass and sandpaper ,figure 8 pattern ,and water until all wear rings are gone or try buying a new pump cover, and don't forget to use KY lube as it is water soluble and won't hurt rubber and seal to prime

How old are the hoses? Very old hoses on the suction side can collapse and reduce water flow, or can delaminate internally and cause blockages.

I have a D2-55 with a Volvo strainer. Never had a prime problem when opening the strainer and it emptied. I would look at pump cover and hoses. How old is the engine? This year I'm getting the heat exchanger checked out.

Thank you for the reply, used some very fine emery paper and sanded to brass, new impeller, and plenty of lubricant, still no luck.

Take the pump off hook up some hoses ,I put the pump in a drill press to drive it .5 gallon pail of water ,empty 5 gallon to catch the water that's how I tested the pump after lapping it.Make sure the shaft seal I is good or it will suck air instead of sucking the water.pour some water down the exit hose to prime.

My Perkins was doing that it turned out to be the elbow that connects to the exhaust mixer was completely clogged with calcification. I found it by disconnecting each hose one at a time, starting the engine and seeing where the flow was blocked.

Did you say you took the hose of the raw water intake, i.e the hole in the bottom of the boat, and no water flowed? If that is the case the intake is blocked or the valve is closed. Nothing to do with prime or impellers, the hole in the bottom of the boat that should let cooling water in is plugged.

No, he took the hose off and put it in a bucket and it wouldn't suck water. So it's either a clog or no prime.

Figured out the problem, went back through all the hoses, sanded the impeller hosing cover, still no water. At the suggestion of a friend he said "goose it" for a few minutes" that did it. I ran it about 2000 rpm for about 30 seconds and we have water flowing. He mentioned on this motor you need to run it hard to get the water to flow. I was too worried about burning up another impeller.

Thank you for all the responses.
