I will be on vacation in florida for two weeks ,last week feb and first week of march. Were looking to retire in few years and want to live on west coast, either tampa, sarasota, port charlotta,ft myers area's. I decided that this area would be best for our 2001-290 hunter,3'6" draft,we almost always sail in protected bay's ,but looking forward to sailing in the gulf. We will be also looking at 55+ communties and marina's in those area's,any helpful info will be weclome. nick

you're welcome to visit

You're welcome to check out recent purchase on a Pt Charlotte canal - $390K (we paid over the top but were in a rush) - about 30mins at idle to the harbor - then 3-4hrs to the Gulf. We were living in UK when we were researching properties and found the Charlotte area GIS system VERY useful for aerial views and tax values. See link. From the Charlotte area MLS (search on Port Charlotte and MLS) you can get water access property listing and pix, put the address into the GIS thing and see where it is (watching for bridges). You're welcome to stop by to see what we got. PGI is very nice but somewhat pricier and "tidier". Oh, if you go on the GIS site, check aerial views box to see satellite pix.

Not that high

I have been talking to some real estate people and they are willing to give us a grand tour by land and water. My wife and I are interested in some 55+ communties not on the water but within close drive to boat. This trip to florida will be looking around to see what our options are for best place to live and enjoy sailing. I really like what I've heard about port charlott and some communties in the area,my wife wants to look at sun city outside tampa and is close to the water also which I like. I also have a relative in ft myers that has a canal behind her house and no boat which is a option. My wife is not crazy about living on the water but we will be looking at everything. nick

Sun City Center

Nick, we spend winters in SCC, 7 miles from Ruskin inlet on Tampa Bay. Great place, open and gated community. Homes/condos from 40s to 500s. Any Questions email me at c_defever@yahoo.com

My son is here from sarasota and all he does is complain how cold it is,he always leaves his coat on in the house so weve been turning the heat up. I'll see if they let us put some warm weather in our suit case when we leave. My wife is so sick of this weather, she delivers the mail and this year has been hell for her and me ,we both work out in this weather so were looking forward to warm vacation instead of sking. nick

Punta Gorda is Paradise

Come see Punta Gorda. We have been discovered (Best place to live in US in 1998 by Money Mag.) but still not out of site. Can buy a sailboat water lot in Punta Gorda for $250-300,000. Can buy a lot with house on it for $400,000 if older house (1970-80). Can find cheaper buys in Port Charlotte for older homes on sailboat water but not much cheaper. Give me a call if I can be of any help. Take you out in boat, show you around. Warren Renninger 941-575-6233 wrenninger3@comcast.net

oh great.........

How does that saying go? call something paradise and you can kiss it good bye. Yeah, the boating down here is great but as more and more Yanks flood the place the worse and worse it gets. Every new yankee wants to change it so it is "just like back home". If you make it down here remember to leave your old ways in the north and adopt your new home, Florida. Learn the waters, they will be shallow and the waves are square when the winds blow. The harbor isn't Long Island Sound so don't complain how different it is from that area. The water is brown here not crystal blue like some idiot real estate people will try to tell you. The water is brown but it is clean, that is just the natural color of our waters so get used to it before you set foot in it. There are lots of critters in the water but few will bother you, Jaws was just a movie. Be more afraid of Red Tide than anything else. If you don't know what that is than look it up on the net before you move down here and complain about it. Other than that I look foward to seeing you driving slowly in the fast lane with your blinker on all the way......
