My wife and I are talking about going out to the Phoenix area in November to see relatives and go to the NASCAR race. I'm thinking about trailering along our boat and wanted to touch base with others who sail on Havasu regularly for tips on marinas, ramps, etc. what to watch out for and general info on the lake.

Haven't sailed there, but have run powerboats

there alot. I usually launched from Windsor Beach in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Upper part of the lake is shallow, the channel into the Colorado is usually over on the California side going upstream. The lower end of the lake is deep and more wide open, some very pretty areas. Unfortunately seems like the winds are usually pretty extreme, either glassy or blowing like snot. The section of the Colorado upstream of Havasu thru Topock gorge is like a mini grand canyon. If you got something you can launch at Moab State Park on CA. side and drift down at about 5 to 6 knots, great for canoes, small powerboats etc.

Thanks Rusty

Hi Ted, Thanks for the help. What is the surface area of the lake and are there very many marinas? I can't seem to find a web site devoted to the lake, I found a few sites for Havasu City that mention the lake and found the sailing club site, but not as much info so far as I was hoping to find in the limited time I had yesterday to look.

The Log is a local So. Cal. boating newspaper

that has a guide to almost anywhere wet here, don't see much in the way of maps but they do list all the ramps and Marinas. I've attached the link here to their Havasu articles.
