Ed: I have a Hunter Vision 36, so I am not sure about the configuration of the 32. Is there a way to relocate the tank and just leave the original tank in it's original location?

6 gal is a very small tank. It is sort of amazing that Hunter used such a small tank. Just for calculations, there are 231 cu in per gal. If you can figure out where you may be able to relocate a tank you can do some calc of your own.

I would also consider a treatment system if that is your only alternative.

Hi Ed! ... I just ripped my holding tank open from the side under the sink. I found a one inch diameter hole in it! Instead of going with the idea of a new tank under the aft berth, I went "green" and got a composting toilet ...

The tank didn't want to budge (don't know if it's strapped in or what). So I sanitized and scrubbed it. Not as nasty as it sounds since it was bone dry and drained through the hole in the bottom. I then lined the tank with fiberglass reinforced plastic (bought a 4x8 sheet at Home Depot.) So now the tank is encased in plastic so I can't give you the exact measurements but if it's any help, I'll get the best measurements I can next time I'm down at the boat (couple of days).

UPDATE .. attached a pic with rough dimensions

Re: Vision 32 Holding Tank Dimensions

Ron, this is a dumb question but what is a composting toilet? does that eliminate the need for a holding tank? can you dump this within the 3 mile limit?

About composting toilets

This is the AirHead, which peNatople call a composter but is actually a dessicator...Airhead Toilet The Nature's Head http://www.natureshead.net/ is very similar.

For very little more money, a Type I MSD--USCG certified device that treats and discharges waste legally in all waters except in those few coastal waters designated "no discharge--makes a lot more sense...can be used with any toilet and is far more environmentally friendly than a holding tank. The most popular are the ElectroScan and PuraSan...check 'em out here: Raritan Waste Treatment

Re: About composting toilets

Peggy, I've just started reading about those. I was following a thread you had written to somebody else but then changed to private messages and not sure how it all turned out for this person. I've just had this boat surveyed and the deal is not complete yet (lots of issues with this boat) one is the holding tank that is not useable at all because whent he surveyor pumped on it, dust flew out from all around the dryied out rotted tank. I read these horror stories of removing the tank from under the shower seat on the Vision 32, then replacing either another inadequate tank of 12 gallons, or somebody was trying to put a 20 gal tank under the aft starboard compartment. I'm not sure which to do, the aft tank, or the Raritan system and leave the holding tank out. My boat will be on the Texas Gulf Coast. thanks so much. Your book is in my Cart to buy if the boat deal comes thru.

"Composting" toilet

looks like Peggy answered the question ... and no, you can't dump within the 3 mile limit. I used mine all season here .... emptied it once ... it was basically like dumping pure peat moss into a plastic garbage bag - no smell - and I added it to my compost pile at home. I boat, for the most part, in no-discharge zones .... and wouldn't switch back to a standard msd ...

But Ron...

What do you do with urine ? You can't dump it overboard inside 3 miles either, and it has to be drained off and/or collected separately from solid waste 'cuz wet soggy material doesn't compost, it rots. 90% of body waste is liquid...even solid waste is 75% liquid...so how do you dispose of it?

Cox, if you buy the boat, we'll spec out a system you'll be happy with..and in your waters I'd give strong consideration to a treatment device.
