OK Guys, I need some help here.

Can someone help me determine how I need to prep my cast iron keel for bottom ablative paint? I attached a few pictures that may indicate some corrosion I am concerned with. I was thinking to use a side grinder with a wire brush wheel to clean the "corrosion spots". I want to know what to use on the bare metal to seal and treat the area before painting.

I also need help to determine how to repair a couple small blisters on the fiberglass rudder.

Thanks for your comments and help.

Bobby

I have an iron keel on my 1990 H-33.5 and have addressed the same problem that you have. When any of this appears, I wire brush it (your wire wheel on an angle grinder is a better approach), then I coate all of those areas with Pettit Rust-Lok.. Then I have used epoxy to "fair" the keel, before applying anti-fouling paint (Pettit Trinadad SR) Each year there have been less and less areas to prep. Removing all paint down to bare keel, then applying Pettit Rust-Lok to the whole keel would have been a better approach for me.

I Feel A Bit Stupid!

I had a Vision 32 for nine years and always thought it was a lead keel!

I am told to do the job right, you should have the keel sand-blasted down to bare metal, then immediately apply epoxy coating. I wonder how much it cost to have that done.
