Many Choices

Virginia has a lot of water front. Can you be more specific? North or South? Eastern shore or Western Shore? Bay or tributary?

I'm not committed to any area. In fact anywhere New York City to Charleston! The normal friendly reception would be good. Reasonbable (low) cost and I need to do a few repair jobs when out.

Winter Storage

About Midway between Md and NC you have about 100 choices. An easy to reach destination by boat or car would be Deltaville. There are easily a dozen marina's with winter storage lots and diy facilities.Rates are more than reasonable, and most are friendly, even to folks of the Northern Persuasion. If you need more specifics, you can e-mail me direct. Larry Wilson Richmond,Va.(boat in Deltaville) Radicalcy(at)yahoo.com

Deltaville, VA

I would second Deltaville. There are many boatyards to choose from, so the rates are very competitive from what I can tell by talking to folks up and down the Bay. Used to be a boat-building town, so the facilities and skills are definitely there.

Hunter Dealer Handy

forgot to mention, the #1 Hunter Dealer in the Nation (World?) is in Deltaville. Norton's Yacht Sales and Marina. They've always been very helpful when I've had questions, and keep a good parts inventory. Not sure whether they allow DIY,but its worth an E-mail to find out. WWW.NortonYachts.com

My Vote(s)

For me, the two best marinas on the southern bay are 1)in the water, Rebel Marine. The staff are premier sailors/watermen. Location is near perfect for a daysail or for taking off up the bay , up the James or down the ICW. Slip fees are quite reasonable. There are nice restaurants within walking distance and the area is large enough to support the itenerant tradesman/repairman of your choice. Live-aboards and tenants alike are the most genuine folk. 2)if you mean to haul out, the same endorsement goes for Cutty Sark at Little Creek... and, they still let you work on your own hull! Come on down! Joe

I 2nd Little Creek

my boat is there right now. Its a nice marina and they were very helpful when my motor failed & I had to sail to the dock. I had made reservations at another marina and it turned out they "forgot" to tell me that they had a silt problem and I would be on mud, so I headed over to little creek instead after calling around and got a good rate from them.

boatyards

There are lots of good, affordable boatyards in Deltaville. Most yards in the area allow DIY work & there are qualified workers in the area for whatever you may want to hire out.
